Transport is regarded as a crucial factor in improving agricultural productivity. It enhances quality of life of the people, creates market for agricultural produce, facilitates interaction among geographical and economic regions and opened up new areas to economic focus. Studies revealed that an improved transportation will encourage farmers to work harder in the rural areas for increased production, add value to their products, reduce spoilage and wastage, empower the farmers as well as having positive impact on their productivity, income, employment and reduce poverty level in the rural areas since it will be easier to move inputs and workers to farm as well as products to markets and agro-allied industry

⦁ Introduction

In order to produce food, farmers need seed, fertilizers, pesticides, etc. Hence transport is an essential aspect of crop production that enables delivery of agricultural resources to a farmer.

It becomes absolutely necessary for the transportation services offered to the farmers to be cheap common and easily accessible.Transport actually forms up a market for

agricultural products, boosts interaction among the geographical and profitable regions together with opening up new areas to economic focus. We examine the relationship between transport cost and technology adoption, and the output of users of modern technology relative to their traditional counterparts in greater detail both theoretically and empirically. Our model generates two testable hypotheses. First, that adoption of new technologies will be more pervasive where transport costs are lower. And second, that reductions in transport costs will have a larger impact on the revenue of farmers already utilizing more modern farming techniques than on the revenue of those still using traditional technologies. The policy implication is that there is a need to target both issues — 3 lowering transport costs, and removing other barriers farmers face to adopting improved technologies — to trigger transformational improvements in production in developing countries

FINDINGS

Based on the analysis, the following findings were made.

i.Transportation plays an important role in the marketing of agricultural products. Effective distribution of agricultural products depends on efficient transportation system.

ii.Transportation helps in creating market for agricultural products by conveying farm products to where they are needed. Also it helps in conveying people to the market place where they make purchases.

iii. Improvement in transportation can encourage farmers to work hard in increasing production.

iv. Good transportation system helps in reducing spoilage and wastages of farm products.

v. Transportation-related problems contributed to the high cost of farm produce in the market.

vi. The means of transportation used by majority of the farmers is road transportation which is fairly convenient to convey the farm products to the market

Future Scope

As this was developed for the benefits of farmer, this system can be further enhanced. The future system will be allowing the farmers as well as other people to contact the delivery transportation module and give the delivery of the products to the respective customer. Moreover, if any malfunctioning happens in the system or at the farmers side or customers side, the farmer/customer can send the status to the admin. In future, this system can be extended to other online ordering and delivery systems.
